ARC Studio+ Review: The Game Changer of 3 Presets (vs. Trinnov and Basic ARC)

Anyone who follows my path knows exactly what went into my direction.

I used the original IK Multimedia ARC Studio for over a year, wearing it out, before making the final leap to the Trinnov Nova . We're talking about a system that costs several times more, is hyper-surgical, and offers infinitely better performance in timing and phase management.

Yet, a month before the official release, IK Multimedia sent me a preview of the new ARC Studio+ . I installed it in place of the Nova just to test it on my ATC SCM25 A PRO.

The result? It's been over a month, and the ARC is still there, attached to my system.

IK Multimedia sent me a preview of the new ARC Studio+. I replaced the Nova with it just to test it out on my ATC SCM25 A PROs.

Today I'll explain why this little box has become the best DSP for acoustic correction that you can buy in 2026 for home studios and professional control rooms, and why the physical management of presets has completely changed my workflow.

What's included in the box (The complete package)

When you order the ARC Studio+, you get more than just the DSP processor.

IK Multimedia provides a closed, ready-to-use ecosystem to do the dirty work from scratch, without forcing you to buy test microphones or third-party software.

Inside the package you will find:

  • The ARC Studio+ hardware unit : the standalone brain with True Bypass circuitry, analog and digital I/O and a dedicated subwoofer output.

  • The MEMS measurement microphone : ultra-linear and specially calibrated to interface with the ARC system, complete with clamp for pole mounting.

  • The ARC software license : the Mac/PC application required to fire test sweeps into the room, calculate the 3D correction algorithm, and generate profiles to load onto the unit.

  • Power adapter and USB-C cable : for mains power and data/audio transmission

    digital to computer.

Basically, you open the box, place the microphone in the sweet spot, follow the on-screen wizard, and in ten minutes flat you have the control room measured, calibrated, and ready for the mix.

The return to the "natural" feeling

If we split hairs and read the technical specifications, the pure hardware (the AD/DA converters) and the calculation algorithm have not changed from the previous version. Same monstrous 120 dB(A) dynamic range, same 32-bit processing.

Same monstrous 120 dB(A) dynamics, same 32-bit processing.

But going back to this system reminded me of a fundamental truth of studio grunt work: sometimes, less DSP intensive gives you a better feel.

The Trinnov is a war machine that handles every single frequency timing down to the millisecond, but the ARC Studio+ works with a linear EQ that surgically corrects only the obvious flaws in the room, leaving the speakers feeling incredibly natural.

The sound never feels "choked" by too much math. You sit down, turn up the volume, and you get a real, but controlled, punch.

The real news of ARC Studio+

If the audio engine has remained unchanged, why is it worth evaluating this machine? For three practical upgrades that will revolutionize the way you manage your control room:

1. Dedicated Subwoofer Output (Native 2.1 Setup): There's now a separate hardware TRS output for the sub. The system does all the heavy lifting for itself, automatically managing the crossover, alignment, and phase between the main monitors and the low frequencies.

2. Pure digital connections: Having ADAT and USB-C inputs and outputs means you can dip in and out of the DSP, skipping an entire AD/DA conversion cycle. The less audio goes in and out of the analog domain, the more pristine the signal remains. In any case, I'm using it only with XLR in and out.

3. Three Standalone Hardware Presets (The Real Reason for the Upgrade): Physical buttons have appeared on the front chassis to instantly switch between three calibration profiles . This isn't just a minor update, it's the killer feature that justifies the upgrade to the "Plus" version.

The machine is completely independent: once the memories are stored , you unplug the USB cable from the computer and it works on its own.

To give you an idea of the power of this thing, on my ATCs I set the three profiles exactly like this:

  • Button 1 - Linear Stereo: Pure stereo correction, linear and extremely precise on the sweet spot of the chair. This is the surgical profile for mixing.

  • Button 2 - Automatic 2.1 Mode: With one click I activate the sub and let the hardware manage the crossover and delays entirely.

  • Button 3 - "Customer" Mode (Distant Hi-Fi Listening): I took a measurement with the microphone positioned much further back, at the back of the room. When the customers sit on the sofa, I press button 3 and the listening is recalibrated for that specific position, simulating a more hi-fi curve. Absolute convenience, zero software hassle.

The machine is completely independent: once the memories are stored, you unplug the USB cable from the computer and it works on its own.

Furthermore, a vital detail for mastering : the unit has a True Bypass circuit. If you want to listen to the monitors "bare and raw" or do a real A/B, the machine bypasses the DSP circuit and passes the analog signal intact. To bypass it, simply press the main button, and you will hear a "click" that will remove the machine from the signal path entirely.

ARC Studio or ARC Studio+? The zero-nonsense choice

The final question is a must: does it make sense to upgrade to the + version if you already have ARC Studio, or which one is better to buy from scratch?

If you don't use a subwoofer, aren't interested in going digital, and are happy with basic routing, the original ARC Studio is still a great buy. You save money and get exactly the same AD/DA conversion quality.

Does it make sense to upgrade to the + version if you already have ARC Studio, or which one is better to buy from scratch?

But if you're working with a 2.1 system, need to seat clients in different positions in the room, or want to switch between "virtual" monitors with the push of a button (without ever opening any apps on your computer), the ARC Studio+ is currently the unbeatable hardware unit on the market.

The final step: The Real Iron for your Master

You've heard the truth from your monitors and locked a surgical mix in the box. But if you want to make the final, decisive leap in quality, you need the sound to pass through real components and real circuit boards.

When you entrust your tracks to VDSS Studio 's Online Mastering or Stem Mastering services, we take your digital tracks and blow them up. We run them through our Neve 8816 summing mixer, add the blistering paste of our custom Vari-Mu compressor, and, for the crowning glory, recapture everything through the lethal physical transformers of our Burl B2 Bomber converter.

The result is devastating volume, natural clipping on transients and an organic three-dimensionality that no plugin can ever give you back.

Stop sounding weak and give your music some real weight.

If you want to make that final, decisive leap in quality, you need the sound to travel through real components and real circuit boards.

LOVE!
